AMA with the Ignite Seattle Team (Thurs. Jan 25th, 7pm PST)

Come meet the Ignite Seattle organizing team for a fun and informal AMA (Ask Me Anything) session. Our speaker coaches and producers will be there to answer whatever questions you are curious about. Or maybe you have an idea or suggestion for us to consider.

This free event, open to all, will take place next Thursday, 1/25 at 7 pm PST on Zoom (Register Here).

Do you want to learn our secrets for organizing such great events? Want advice on pitching us your Ignite talk idea? Curious about what it’s like to be part of the Ignite team and want to join us? Or want public speaking tips from people who’ve literally walked the walk and talked the talk? This is the event for you.

We’ll be hosting this AMA (ask me anything) style where you’ll get to go behind the scenes of one of Seattle’s most popular live storytelling events. Speaker submissions are due in less than a month, so this is the perfect opportunity to get our feedback if you’re even just starting to brainstorm – you won’t want to miss out!

Learn Public Speaking From the Ignite Seattle Team (Mon. April 8th 6:30pm)

Ignite Seattle thrives on diverse ideas and challenging stories and we’ve coached hundreds of people how to share them live on stage. We know  everyone can be better at speaking in their daily lives and we’re hosting another workshop (last one sold out in a day) to help you do that.

Join us to learn:

  • How to tell better stories at work or in life (and do it fast!)
  • The 6 most common mistakes speakers make and how to avoid them
  • The science behind fears about speaking and how to manage them
  • How to get a talk proposal accepted at events like Ignite Seattle, TEDx, etc.
  • Plus a few volunteers who bring 60 seconds of a talk they have will get an expert critique

You don’t need to have a talk idea or submit to Ignite to attend.

Your coach will be professional speaker and Ignite Seattle emcee Scott Berkun from SpeakHQ. In addition to giving 20 to 30 lectures and keynotes each year, he wrote the bestselling guide to public speaking, Confessions of a Public Speaker.

Ignite Seattle Alum Launches Subscription Science Kits for Girls

We always get excited when we see Ignite alumni doing awesome and amazing things. Last week Kina McAllister (Reject to Lab Tech @ Ignite Seattle 22) launched a new Kickstarter project called StemBox: a science subscription kit for girls. We reached out to offer our congratulations, and she said this about the motivation behind her project:

“This whole thing was really inspired by the Ignite talk you all invited me to give last year. You have an amazing platform to help people find their inspiration. Thanks again!!”

StemBox is already halfway to it’s goal of raising $15,000. Check it out and find your own inspiration.

360|intersect is focused on the intersection of creativity and technology. Speakers are technologists from around the world, talking about the things they do away from the keyboard, that make them awesome at the things they do at the keyboard.

You can see the schedule and great topics at http://360intersect.com/schedule

John’s given us a special 50% off discount code for friends of Ignite who’d like to attend – Just use the code “PacNW50”.

ThingOut 2 / Electronics Swap Meet

Don’t forget! This Sunday afternoon, before Ignite we’ll be hosting ThingOut 2 at the Fremont Outdoor Cinemas. Like last year, we’ve got a bunch of cool projects to show off, plus something new. We’re doing an electronics swap meet. Come down between 3:30 and 6:30 and bring any cool gadgets, or half-built projects or just stuff you want to trade. You might even be able to find some treasures at the Fremont Sunday Market. And, of course, Ignite Seattle 17 starts at approximately 7:30.

For more information about ThingOut, or to submit a project, check out the event’s web page. See you Sunday!
