Radar and Make: are going to be hosting a free geek night in Seattle, on Thursday, December 7th. Ignite Seattle will be held at the LowerLevel in Capitol Hill.
The fun will start at 6:30 with a Make: Magazine sponsored bridge building competition led by Bre Pettis. Using popsicle sticks and hot glue, each team will have 30 minutes to make a bridge. Then we’ll weigh them down until each one is destroyed. The team who has the bridge that holds the most weight will win prizes. All ages welcome! Feel free to bring your own LED’s, wire and batteries to make your bridge light up!
The main event will start at 8PM with a series of short talks from local volunteers in the Stage Room. The talks are all going to be five minutes long, with 20 slides that change every 15 seconds. So far Scott Berkun, Shelly Farnham, Beth Goza, Danyel Fisher, Stuart Maxwell, Justin Martenstein, Rob Flickenger among others will be speaking. Brady Forrest will be MC’ing. In addition to having full bar, the LowerLevel has WiFi. It also has a second room (the room with the bar) so that you can take a break from the planned activity to do your own thing. Currently Buster McLeod (AKA Erik Benson) plans to lead Werewolves in there.
The goal is to have a fun night of geekery and networking. Come prepared.

Ignite is going to be a great night of makers, geeks, scientists, and innovators hanging out at the Capitol Hill Arts Center in Seattle. The fun will start at 6:30 with a Make: Magazine sponsored bridge building competition. Using popsicle sticks and hot glue, each team will have 30 minutes to make a bridge. Then we’ll weigh them down until each one is destroyed. The team who has the bridge that holds the most weight will win prizes. Stick around after the competition for some interesting presentations! All ages welcome until 10pm and then it becomes a 21 and over event.
This contest will be very informal since teams will only have 1/2 hour to make their bridges. I’m looking at the bridge building competition website and I got the above photo from http://www.garrettsbridges.com/ and I really like his style of finding how much weight a bridge will hold by putting the scale right on the bridge. Feel free to bring your own LED’s, wire and batteries to make your bridge light up!
We’ll be providing the popsicle sticks and some hot glue guns, but if you’ve got your own glue gun, bring it. Also, bring along your own eye protection please.

Ask Later is going to be one of the main events at Ignite Seattle. This is the open mic part of the evening. Anyone who wants will get 5 minutes on stage with 20 slides, but with no control over them. The slides will rotate through at a rate of 15 seconds. Your talk can be about anything, but remember your audience. This is inspired by Pecha Kucha.
So far we have 4 speakers: Buster McLeod (AKA Erik Benson), Scott Berkun, Shelly Farnham, and Beth Goza. If you want to join them, sign up in the comments.

Come to Ignite, a short-form, almost-unconference event. Seattle needs the occasional gathering of the geek tribe to spark new ideas and keep the mojo fresh. Be a part of it!

There are two spaces, so everyone will have the opportunity to speak and do their own thing. We already have Make: Club, Ask Later (5 minute talks with no interuptions), and Werewolves planned, but that’s just the beginning. Sure you can just come to lurk, but wouldn’t it be more fun to take the stage?
